The slipper. I knew I'd have to write this one up eventually and here we are. Right slipper, tartan sort, on the wall by the bus stop at Netherton, reported by Our Linda's cousin Marjorie, who had seen it from the 324 twice in one week and told Linda, who told me over tea in a tone that suggested the matter were already decided. It were a Tuesday when I went, me not working Tuesdays, and the slipper were on the wall as described. Marjorie's reporting were accurate in every particular, which I've since learned is Marjorie all over.
Now, the question of whether a slipper counts. I had reservations and the notebook records them honestly. A slipper is not built for the outdoors; there's an argument it stands closer to the wellington question than to the main sequence. But I sat with the argument at the bus stop — briefly, the wind being bitter — and the test come out plain: it's footwear, it were alone, and it were there. That's the test. It's been the test since 2009 and a shoe doesn't fail it for being comfortable. The wellingtons are a different matter and my reservations there are on record and not for revisiting here.
Good condition, hardly worn, no laces, being a slipper. Photographed quick and clean, kept the whole visit brief on account of the wind, and home. Marjorie were told her sighting had been confirmed and entered, and I understand she mentions it on the 324 from time to time, which as recruitment for the register goes is not a method I'd have chosen, but I can't argue with her results.
Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
