Went back up to the wood to look at the place where 274 had been. It is not there any more, which I knew before I set off, but I wanted to see it. Found a work boot in the drain on the way out and were glad of it. The matter of 274 is not settled and I will say so plainly.

Took the Tuesday off and walked up Pule Hill. Found a red shoe on the wall with a heel on it like nowt I've come across in seventeen years. You'd not get ten yards in it up there. Our Linda had packed me a Japanese dinner I did not understand.

Our Linda booked it sharpish after the business with the car. Seven nights on a boat down the Nile. I weren't to look for shoes. I saw one on the bank we sailed past. And I found one at Karnak.

Went to put the folding stool away. There were a boot in the boot. Not mine. Not Our Linda's. I have not decided where this one goes. I had my lunch in the car.

Half-day Wednesday. Took an hour at the park. A ladies' court shoe sat upright on a bench facing the valley. There were summat tucked in the toe. I've put it back.

Went back to Wessenden on a planned outing. The boot from May 2024 were still there. But it weren't facing the way it were. Same boot. New ledger.

Putting the torch back in the airing cupboard. Hand caught on summat that weren't the torch. A left shoe, brown, size ten, behind the boiler. Not mine. Not Our Linda's. New ledger.

First proper outing since I got back. Walked up to the tower. A right boot on the wall, facing the valley. You could see for miles. A grounding sort of shoe.

Our Linda's cousin Marjorie had spare tickets. I hadn't meant to look. I found a sandal on the sea wall. The first ladies' shoe in seventeen years.

Someone had placed it on the lock mechanism with care. A narrowboat nearly took it. I didn't intervene. You can't interfere.

Balanced on the churchyard wall in heavy rain. The polish held up. The vicar came out and said "that's very thorough."

Sat upright, as if waiting. Identification came through later, via Our Linda. The matter of the intervening ten years is not addressed.

Mud on the toe but not the heel. The reservoir were like a mirror. A heron flew over.

Our Linda spotted it. Fished it out and set it on a wall to dry. Hope that were the right call.

Laces still in and tied. Size nine, maybe ten. A chaffinch landed nearby. Not relevant but worth noting.

Tip-off from Barry. Smart shoe in a layby. You don't lose a brogue by accident.

Drove to Skipton on the basis of a reported sighting. It was a wellington boot. I have reservations. Logged separately.

Very weathered. At least one full winter, probably two. A proper leather boot up on the moor.

Dark tan, five eyelets, leather sole. Four of five photographs blurred. The wind were bitter.

Slip-on sort, not laced. In October the colours are right along the towpath.

Crackin' spot. Flask conditions were excellent. The photographs didn't come out.

A sandal in April. Still cold in the mornings up on the moors. Unusual for the time of year.

Stood on the central island while traffic continued. Drivers were accommodating. I noted this with appreciation.

Red leather, bright red. Small. One I come back to in my mind occasionally.
