The Register — 2015

17 entries, #72 to #88  ·  transcribed from the notebook

This is the year the folder starts. There were reports going round a walking forum, early 2015, about a shoe somewhere Heckmondwike way. More than one person, and the details didn't match up, which is usually how you know there's summat in it. I opened a folder for it and the folder is still open. I'll say no more about that here because none of it is confirmed and confirmed is what the register is for. The other thing I notice transcribing this notebook is the flask starts appearing in the notes partway through the year. I couldn't tell you when I decided that. There's no announcement, it's just in one day and then it's in every day after, which I suppose is how most of the method arrived. Seventeen shoes. A lot of Mirfield and that side of the district, on account of the reports, though I want to be clear the shoes I logged over there were ordinary shoes, found and confirmed proper. Biro held out the full year. Our Linda did the sandwiches throughout.

Calder & Hebble towpath, Shepley Bridge, Mirfield
Right trainer, white gone grey, laces gone entirely. On the towpath edge near Shepley Bridge Marina. Cold morning, frost on the lock beams. Photograph didn't come out. First of the year and a fair way from my usual ground, but a shoe is a shoe.

14 March 2015  ·  Right boot, brown
Conduit path, Deer Hill
Right boot, brown leather, one lace missing, heel worn down on the outside. In the grass beside the conduit path. Bright but bitter. Flask were still warm at eleven, which I've decided is worth putting down. Photograph came out, more or less.

Green Lane, Heckmondwike
Left trainer, black, laces tied, hardly worn. On the verge along Green Lane. I were over that way for other reasons and found this on the walk back to the car. An ordinary shoe, and I record it as such. Mild, spitting on. Flask not opened.
