Beaumont Park, Huddersfield — Left Plimsoll, Black

Beaumont Park, Huddersfield  ·  Shoe #294  ·  Conditions: warm, first proper warm day of the year

First proper warm day of the year, and Beaumont Park full of families making the most of it, which is what the park is for and I begrudge nobody. It does change the character of the work, mind. On a moor you can take your time. In a busy park a man photographing under a staircase draws attention, and fair enough.

Left plimsoll, black, the slip-on sort, so nowt to report on laces. Under the big stone steps, and the detail that carried the entry: canvas gone green along one side. That tells you which way it's been lying and that it's been lying that way a fair while — the green doesn't come overnight. I noted the green side facing north-east, or as near as I could judge under the steps, because if you're going to record a thing you might as well record it properly.

A man asked what I were photographing. I told him — a plimsoll, left, been there some time by the look of it. He moved off. That happens now and again and I've never minded it. Most people are only checking you're not up to summat, and once they've established you're photographing a plimsoll they generally decide you're not, which is correct.

Penguin biscuit on the top terrace after, looking out over the valley, which is one of the better Penguin spots in the district and I say that having tested most of them. No flask note in the book for this one and I'll not guess at it. A good entry. The park ones always read a bit different to the moor ones, and I think a register is better for having both.
