A tip-off, this one, and a good one. A chap on the forum had reported a boot under the viaduct arches at Denby Dale, and the book records — with what I can only call satisfaction — that the shoe were where he said it were, which isn't always the case. I'd been sent to plenty of empty verges by then, and one memorable wellington, which is another matter entirely and doesn't belong in this report.
Right boot, black, heavy sort, laces in but loose. Fine day. The viaduct at Denby Dale is a proper piece of work — longest brick arches in the country by some measures, though I didn't note that, I just remember knowing it — and a boot sat under it looks smaller than a boot usually looks, which I did think about at the time.
The book says I sat on the stool a while, flask conditions good, egg and cress. 2017 were the year the drives went east more than usual, on account of the folder, and Denby Dale were part of that. This one had nowt to do with the folder, mind. It were just a boot, well reported, and I logged it as such.
