St Lucius's Churchyard, Farnley Tyas — Child's Shoe, Right, Blue

St Lucius's churchyard, Farnley Tyas  ·  Shoe #109  ·  Conditions: dry, cold

First shoe Farnley Tyas ever gave me, and the notebook makes a point of saying so. Child's shoe, right, blue, buckle sort — so no laces to note, which I noted anyway, because the laces line in the book wants filling one way or another. It were sat on the wall by St Lucius's churchyard. Dry morning, cold.

One photograph, and it came out well enough. Flask conditions good. That's the entry, more or less. The children's ones I tend to write shorter and I notice reading it back that I did here an' all. There's not much to say and it's right not to say it.

What the book doesn't record is how it come to be on the wall, and I didn't wonder long, because that's not really the point of what I do. Farnley Tyas turned up again later that same year, as it happens — see number 118. Some places wait a hundred entries and then do two in a season. I've never found a pattern to it and I've stopped expecting one.

Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
