Left shoe, black, by the gate, fair condition. "Fair condition" is doing a lot of work there. It's the first time the register passes any judgement on the state of a shoe, and reading Notebook 1 back you can see it's where condition starts becoming a proper field, though it took a few more years to settle into one.
St John's has a lychgate and I believe it were by that, but the book only says "the gate", so I'll leave it at the gate. No photograph mentioned. Conditions not noted, though late September in Golcar, you can make your own guess. I won't.
