Magdale, Honley — Left Plimsoll, Black

Magdale, Honley  ·  Shoe #114  ·  Conditions: overcast, warm

A plimsoll, which you don't get many of, and the slip-on sort, so no laces to record — the book notes that, because the laces line wants an answer even when the answer is that the question doesn't apply. Left foot, black, in the beck-side grass at Magdale, Honley. Overcast and warm.

The sizing gave me trouble and I let the trouble show in the entry: a five, happen a six, could be a lad's, hard to say. I don't guess in the register, so where the book hedges, I hedge, and I'm hedging now. It stays ambiguous. That's not sloppiness, that's the record being honest about what a wet plimsoll in long grass will tell you, which is not much.

One photograph, came out grainy. Flask conditions fair. Magdale is a pleasant spot for a sit even without a shoe — the beck does the work — but I don't remember whether I stopped long that day and the book doesn't say, so I'll not invent it. Noted, photographed, home. June carried on.

Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
