Dam Top, Scammonden Water — Right Trainer, White

Dam top, Scammonden Water  ·  Shoe #115  ·  Conditions: bright, breezy

Three photographs taken and all three came out. The notebook records this as unusual, which it were and still is. I could count the all-came-out days on one hand up to about 2018, and this were one of them, at Scammonden of all places, where the light bounces off the water and generally ruins everything.

The shoe: right trainer, white, laces knotted together, on the dam top. The knotted laces are the interesting part and the book gives them their own line. Laces tied is common enough. Laces knotted together — the two of them, joined — is a different state of affairs, and I recorded it and left it at that, because how it come to be that way is not really the point of what I do.

Bright, breezy, motorway loud alongside, which at Scammonden it always is; you either mind it or you don't, and I've decided not to. I sat on the stool an hour watching nowt in particular, which the book states plainly and I'll defend plainly. Flask conditions good. An hour on a dam top in June with a full flask and a documented shoe behind you is time correctly spent.

Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
