Digley Reservoir — Right Boot, Tan

Digley Reservoir  ·  Shoe #117  ·  Conditions: showers on and off

The double knot is what I remember, and for once memory and notebook agree. Right boot, tan, fair condition, laces tied in a double knot, on the wall by the car park at Digley Reservoir. Somebody had tied that boot with intent — the sort of knot you put in a lace when you mean to keep the boot on — and there it were on a wall with no foot in it. I noted the knot and nowt else, because the knot is a fact and the rest isn't my department.

Showers on and off. Four photographs, three came out, which for a showery day at Digley is a strong return. Flask conditions good. Egg and cress.

The book records that I walked the full circuit after and found nowt else, 'which is usual'. I put that phrase in a lot around then and I stand by it — the circuit after a find is part of the discipline, and finding nothing on it is the normal and correct outcome. Digley turned up again in the register years later, as regulars will know, but in 2017 this were its entry for the year and a tidy one.

Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
