Fog all morning and it never lifted — Golcar sits high enough that when the valley fills, it stays filled, and the 4th of November 2017 were one of them days. Left trainer, black, mud right through it, laces tied, on the setts at Town End. A trainer with the mud right through it, on clean setts, in a village. I recorded the fact and not the question, as is my practice.
One photograph and it didn't come out, which given the fog surprised nobody, least of all me. Flask conditions good — the flask doesn't care about fog, which is one of the things I value in it.
The entry ends with a line that has nowt to do with shoes: 'Our Linda had the fire on.' I don't often let the house into the register, but transcribing it now I'm glad I did, because I can place that whole day from them five words — the fog, the wet setts, the drive back down, and the fire on when I come in. Some entries are about the shoe and some are about the day the shoe were in. This were the second sort.
