Blackmoorfoot twice in one year, and near enough the same stretch. Left trainer, green, laces gone, heel worn to nowt, on the conduit path more or less where the January boot were. The notebook records that I checked against the earlier entry on the spot and made it forty yards off. Not the same place, then, but near enough to note, and I noted it.
Bright and cold. Sat on the stool. Flask conditions very good — it were the sort of autumn morning that flatters a flask. Three photographs come out. One of them shows the reservoir wall behind, which places it for anybody minded to check.
Forty yards is the sort of measurement people think is fussy until they need it. If I'd written 'same spot as January' the register would hold a falsehood, and two shoes eight months apart in the exact same spot would be a different class of fact to two shoes forty yards apart, which is just a path doing what paths do. The book closes the year's Blackmoorfoot business with 'Blackmoorfoot has been good to the register this year', and it had. It still is. There were a trainer along there as recent as April 2026, though that's a story for a later notebook.
Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
