Beaumont Park, Huddersfield — Left Sandal, Child's, Brown

Beaumont Park, Huddersfield  ·  Shoe #218  ·  Conditions: warm, park busy

A quick one, this, and honestly recorded as such. Left sandal, child's, brown, buckle sort, so no laces to record — noted as none rather than left blank, which is the practice. It were on the low wall by the bottom path at Beaumont Park, warm day, park busy, the way Beaumont Park is on a warm Sunday at the end of May.

The notebook makes an observation I'd stand by as a general finding: sandals turn up more as the weather comes on. I record it as a pattern and I draw no conclusions from it, same as I did then. Patterns are for noticing, not explaining. The register has taught me that if it's taught me owt.

Condition good. I were quick about the photographs on account of the crowds — a busy park is no place to linger over a child's sandal with a camera, and being quick and obviously businesslike is part of the craft. I checked them at home and two of three came out, which for hurried work is acceptable and were accepted. The reason for the early finish is also in the notebook: Our Linda's cousin Marjorie were visiting that weekend, so I were back by twelve. I'll not pretend the register has never bent around Marjorie's visits, because it has, more than once over the years, and I record that here in the same spirit as the weather — a condition of the day, faithfully noted, nowt to be done about it.

Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
