Wessenden Reservoir Path, Marsden — Left Boot, Black

Wessenden Reservoir path, above Marsden  ·  Shoe #28  ·  Conditions: snow lying on the tops

Left boot, black, by the first gate past the dam wall on the Wessenden Reservoir path above Marsden. Snow still lying on the tops, and the notebook records that the laces were frozen stiff. That detail has stuck with me. You could have stood them up like wire.

This were the first of two Wessenden shoes that year, which tells you where my Saturdays were going. It's a walk I know well enough to do in snow without thinking twice about it, though Our Linda thought twice about it on my behalf.

No photograph is mentioned, and I couldn't tell you now whether that means I didn't take one or it didn't come out. In 2012 the two came to much the same thing. The boot itself I remember as a proper working boot, though the notebook only says black, so black is what stands.

Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
