The notebook says it rained the whole way round, and calls it the wettest April I could remember. As it turned out, the summer that followed were wetter still, but I didn't know that in April.
Left trainer, blue, in the grass beside the conduit on the Deer Hill side above Meltham. The conduit path is a good level walk in any weather, which is likely why I were on it that day rather than up on the tops getting the full benefit.
Photograph didn't come out. Rain and my camera never got on in them days, and I hadn't yet learned to keep it in a bag inside a bag, which is a lesson 2012 taught me thoroughly. Nothing else recorded. A blue trainer in wet grass, noted and left, and home for tea a bit damp.
Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
