I've walked up Castle Hill more or less monthly since 1976, so the odds always said it would give me a shoe eventually, and in May 2012 it did. Child's shoe, right, black, buckle sort, no laces to note. On the steps up to the tower.
Bright morning with a sharp wind, which is Castle Hill's usual arrangement. The notebook says I left it where it were, which it needn't have said, because I always do, but I evidently felt it wanted stating with this one. A child's shoe does that. It were the third in the register by then and you find yourself writing a bit more carefully each time.
No photograph mentioned. I remember the shoe better than I remember most from that year, which happen makes up for it. Buckle sort. You don't see as many of them now.
Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
