Right boot, brown, mud to the ankle line, one lace missing, sat in the rut of the track above Honley Woods. In pencil now, and the pencil suits October somehow.
First cold morning of the autumn, and the notebook says the ground were still claggy from the summer, which it stayed well into the next year. Mud to the ankle line is a tidy piece of recording, because it tells you the boot had stood in water up to there at some point, and I set that down without going any further into how or when. The mud line is a fact. The rest isn't my department.
Took two photographs and neither come out, which made it a five-failure year with the camera by my count. I stuck with that camera another six year regardless, which says more about me than the camera. I couldn't tell you now what I had in the bag that day. The notebook weren't recording bags yet.
Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
