A lay-by find, which are their own sort of job — you're stood at the kerb edge with wagons going past and you get on with it. Right shoe, child's, blue, the velcro sort. Fair condition, the notebook says. Cold wind off the tops, which anybody who's stood in that lay-by in March will recognise.
One photograph, and it came out reasonable, which were worth writing down in 2013 because most of them didn't. Where that photograph is now I couldn't say — it'll be in one of the wallets in the sideboard, but I've not gone looking. Children's shoes go in the register same as any other. Left or right, colour, condition, where it were. That's the whole of it, and it were the forty-third.
Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
