Milnsbridge again, same stretch as January's, which the notebook itself points out — on the bench arm by the mill this time. Left trainer, grey, laces in. So that stretch of towpath gave up two shoes in one year, at either end of it, and I noted the fact and nothing more, because a coincidence is only a coincidence.
Fog on the canal all morning and it never lifted. I remember that fog, or I think I do — November fog on the Huddersfield Narrow all looks the same in the memory, so I'll not swear it's this particular morning I'm remembering. The photograph didn't come out, and in that fog I doubt any photograph would have. A grey trainer in grey fog. The notebook did the job the camera couldn't, which were generally the arrangement in them days.
