Wessenden is my sort of country and this were a proper Wessenden find. Right boot, brown, sole coming away at the toe, laces knotted, beside the path above Butterley. The notebook has the weather done properly: bright first thing, cloud in by ten, which is the standard Wessenden arrangement.
It also says I ate me sandwiches further up, which is about when sandwiches start appearing in the notes at all. It doesn't say what were in them. I'd started recording that they happened before I thought to record what they were, which looking back were only half a job. I'll have had the flask. Home for tea.
