Midges about on the towpath near Tunnel End at Marsden, and among them a right sandal, brown, buckle rusted through. A rusted buckle tells you the sandal had been out a while, and that's as far as I'll go — how it got there isn't my department. Warm day, and the towpath there does midges well in June.
The notebook says cheese and pickle in foil for after, which is one of the earliest sandwich contents I have in writing. Our Linda were doing cheese and pickle then and she does cheese and pickle now, so the record and the present line up nicely. Photograph came out a bit grainy. They suit the subject, the grainy ones.
Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
