Aspley Wharf, Huddersfield — Right Trainer, Grey

Wharf at Aspley, Huddersfield  ·  Shoe #71  ·  Conditions: bitter cold, first proper frost of the winter

Last of the year, and the year went out as it come in, with frost. Right trainer, grey, both laces in, frozen to the setts by the wharf at Aspley. First proper frost of the winter, the notebook says, and 'frozen to the setts' is written with what I'd call satisfaction — a shoe frozen down isn't going anywhere, so you can take your time over it.

The year had started with a frozen trainer on the towpath at Slaithwaite in January, so there were a tidiness to finishing with another, though I didn't arrange it and you can't. Sixteen shoes in 2014. A settled year, and the notebook shows it.

Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
