A park shoe, this one. Child's plimsoll, left, white, under the bench near the bandstand at Greenhead Park. Elastic sort, so no laces to note, which I noted. Clean and recent — it hadn't been there long. Park shoes are usually recent. They get tidied away where a moor shoe gets left, so you have to be there in the window.
Mild for March, the notebook says. Flask conditions good, and I sat on the bench a while, the same bench the plimsoll were under, which the notebook doesn't remark on and neither will I. Egg and cress that day — sandwich contents were being recorded by 2016 and I'm glad of it now, because I'd not have remembered.
The photograph came out. A white plimsoll against tarmac gives the camera summat to work with, which the moorland finds often don't. This were three weeks before the stool arrived, so the bench did the job the stool does now. A tidy little entry and one I'd forgotten entirely until I read it back.
