Scar Lane, Golcar — Left Sandal, Brown, Buckle Sort

Scar Lane, Golcar  ·  Shoe #97  ·  Conditions: warm and close, thunder about later

A sandal, which the register doesn't see many of. Left, brown, buckle sort, sat on the wall top partway up Scar Lane in Golcar. The buckle had rusted through, so it had been out through some weather. No laces to note, and the notebook notes that there were no laces to note, because the field gets filled in either way. That's the system.

Warm and close, with thunder about later on — Scar Lane is a steep pull at the best of times and in close weather you feel it. Flask conditions fair, tea a bit stewed. I'll have brewed it too strong before setting off, which happens when Our Linda isn't overseeing the flask stage.

The first photograph didn't come out. I took another and that one did, which the notebook records as two separate facts, and rightly, because persistence is part of the record. A shoe on a wall top is always worth the second attempt — it presents better than a shoe in a drain, and how it came to be up there isn't really the point of what I do. The Golcar sandal is one of the few from that notebook I can still picture without looking.

Written up August 2026, from the notebook.
