The big day out of 2016. Left boot, brown, off the path near the second reservoir, Wessenden way, laces gone. But the shoe is only part of this entry — the notebook records a full day of it, set off at half seven, out past three, and the weather given the notebook's highest word, the whole day through, which is not a word it uses lightly and neither do I.
Everything were provisioned accordingly. Two rounds of sandwiches, cheese and pickle and egg and cress, which tells you Our Linda knew the scale of the outing before I did. Flask conditions excellent — the top mark, given sparingly. Stool brought because I had a feeling about it, and Wessenden feelings are usually sound. It's my best ground and always has been.
Five photographs taken, three came out, which for 2016 were a strong return, though I couldn't tell you now which two failed or why. The boot itself were unremarkable as boots go — brown, left, laces gone — but the register has never required a shoe to be remarkable. It requires it to be there, and recorded properly, and this one were both, with the whole of Wessenden laid out around it in July. There are entries I read back as a list of facts and entries I read back as a day. This is one of the days.
